Setting Up For
The Hunt - Part 3
Before the first group of
bear hunters arrive there is work to do. This year we had equipment from
the hunt's sponsors that helped make some of the tasks easier. One job
in particular is a heavy weight, carrying the 4 outboard motors 200 yards
down a hill, across a slippery shale railroad track bed, and down a uneven
path to the nearby fishing lake. Normally you can only take one motor at
a time and it requires several stops on the way to get your breath back.
This year we used the Eastman
Outfitters Versa-Cart to carry 2 motors per trip.
It was easier with the Versa-Cart
and cut the trips from 4 to only 2.
Shooting practice is as
important during the hunt as before. We received Cube targets from American
Whitetail Targets. We took them out of the shipping cartons, got our bows
out and checked our sights.
The Duck, Fred and I received
Venom Peep Sight Systems
for the hunt. I was the only one who already had one installed. The Duck
marked where his old one was and put it on the bowstring of his fast shooting
BowTech Patriot. He used a
Shooting Loop knot to secure it to the bow's cable and took a few shots,
adjusted its position slightly so he could see through it perfectly.
NAP (New Archery Products)
sent him and I QuickTune 260 arrow rests. It is named right because you
can turn your bow 360 degrees and your arrow won't fall out of the rest.
And it is quick to tune. Don adjusted the rest for center shot and adjusted
the arrow holding fins so they fit properly and precisely for his Carbon
Express MAXIMA arrows.
Then he made a slight bowsight
adjustment and started shooting bulls eye.
